Bishop Challenger Raises More Than $300,000

George Demos, a little-known Republican lawyer, announced Tuesday that he has raised more than $300,000 for his campaign to unseat four-term Rep. Tim Bishop (D-N.Y.).

And Demos ended the year with $275,000 in the bank, according to the campaign. It’s an impressive showing for an SEC prosecutor who has never run for office. But when it comes to financial resources, he still trails behind fellow Republican Randy Altschuler, an entrepreneur who reported a total of $664,000 in total receipts through the end of September, including $450,000 from his own pocket.

Altschuler ended September with $538,000 in the bank. Bishop has $711,000 cash on hand.

And Altschuler is already up with his first television ad, launched last week.
