Is Rep. Ed Markey looking for a new line of work?[IMGCAP(1)]The Massachusetts Democrat appeared to be an aspiring lounge lizard this morning when he serenaded a committee with a Rat Pack classic.Markey livened up a markup of the Energy and Commerce Committee by breaking into version of Dean Martin’s “That’s Amore— with altered lyrics describing the problem of dumping radioactive waste. A sample: “When the trash piles high, reaches up to the sky … no amore!— he crooned. Republicans on the committee clearly think Markey should keep his day job. They howled during the performance, and our tipster heard Rep. Steve Buyer (R-Ind.) shouting, “Make it stop!—And while his fellow Dems showed a little more love (Markey got applause and a few high fives for the musical interlude), even Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) ribbed him a bit. “The gentleman asked to strike the last word, but he actually struck the last note,— he said.
