Coakley, Capuano to Report Nearly $2 Million in Fundraising

Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley (D) raised about $2 million more for her special election Senate bid over the past month and a half, nearly doubling her total receipts to $4.1 million, the campaign announced Thursday.Coakley will report cash on hand of more than $1.9 million in her pre-primary financial disclosure, covering the period between Oct. 1 and Nov. 18.Her fundraising edges Rep. Mike Capuano (D), who announced Wednesday evening that he raised $1.8 million in the period and had $1.1 million in cash on hand.Coakley got an early jump on fundraising as the first candidate in the race to succeed the late Sen. Edward Kennedy (D), leading the field in the first reporting period through Sept. 30.Capuano pulled in $1.5 million in the first period, but $1.2 million of that came from his Congressional campaign. So the latest fundraising tally represents a big jump for him.Fellow Democrats Stephen Pagliuca and Alan Khazei have yet to disclose their pre-primary fundraising reports, which are due to the Federal Election Commission Nov. 26.Pagliuca has been relying largely on his own funds in his campaign — he gave the campaign $1.8 million, according to its initial fundraising report through September, and has presumably given a lot more since, having spent $5.7 million on television advertising as of midweek.Capuano has spent $1.4 million on television ad buys and Coakley, after waiting until October to launch ads, isn’t much behind at $1.3 million.
