Kansas: Flake, Osborne Jump on Moran Bandwagon

Rep. Jeff Flake (Ariz.) is the latest Republican Member to pick a side in the Senate primary battle between GOP Reps. Jerry Moran and Todd Tiahrt.

Flake endorsed Moran on Friday and gave his campaign $1,000. His endorsement comes as little surprise since the Arizona Congressman has been one of the most vocal opponents in Congress of earmarks and wasteful spending, and Tiahrt is a member of the Appropriations Committee.

“I know I can count on Jerry Moran to stand with me in my fight against wasteful earmarks and efforts to increase transparency in government,— Flake said in a statement. “Many in Washington D.C. don’t want to address the serious problems with the earmarking process, but Jerry has been a compelling, principled voice for reform. His strong voice for accountability and transparency is needed in the U.S. Senate.—

Moran’s campaign also announced this week that former Rep. Tom Osborne (R-Neb.) is headlining a Nov. 14 fundraiser for his campaign, adding to a list of endorsements that includes GOP Sens. John McCain (Ariz.), John Thune (S.D.), Tom Coburn (Okla.) and Mike Johanns (Neb.).

Tiahrt is backed by Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.), Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) and, most recently, former Attorney General John Ashcroft (R), who announced last week he is backing the Wichita Republican.
