Pennsylvania: Toomey: $1.5 Million Raised in 3rd Quarter

Former Rep. Pat Toomey (R) announced Wednesday he raised more than $1.5 million in the third quarter of the year.

Toomey is the likely GOP Senate nominee in the Keystone State, where Sen. Arlen Specter is running for re-election as a Democrat next year. Specter switched parties earlier this year because he said polls indicated he could not defeat Toomey in the GOP primary.

A spokesman for the Specter campaign said the campaign will release its fundraising numbers later. Specter’s primary opponent, Rep. Joe Sestak, has also not publicly released his fundraising from the past three months.

The Club for Growth, meanwhile, announced they have contacted more than 6,000 Specter donors as part of their campaign to hold the new Democratic Senator to his word that he would return any donations given to him as a Republican if asked. Specter has separately announced that he will only process refund requests until Oct. 15.

Toomey is the former president of the club, which has endorsed his candidacy.
