Byrd Taken to Hospital After Falling

Sen. Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.), the Senate’s longest-serving Member, was taken to the hospital Tuesday after falling at his home in Northern Virginia. Byrd “apparently stood up too fast this morning in his home and fell down,— spokesman Jesse Jacobs said in an e-mail. “To err on the side of caution his caregiver called an ambulance. He was taken to the hospital where he is currently being checked out.— “At this point in time there is no indication that he will be admitted,— Jacobs added. Byrd, 91, was hospitalized in June for a minor infection. His stay was extended after he developed a staph infection. He was released on June 30 after a six-and-a-half-week stay.
