Kansas: McCain Backs Moran Over Tiahrt for Senate

Rep. Jerry Moran (R) announced Monday that Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has endorsed his campaign for Senate. Moran and Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R) are running for the seat currently held by Sen. Sam Brownback (R), who is leaving to run for governor in 2010. “Moran has a proven record of fiscal responsibility — he has stood up to irresponsible spending on both sides of the aisle and is not afraid to oppose wasteful earmarks that cheat the American taxpayer,— McCain said in a statement.

The 2008 GOP presidential nominee is also scheduled to host a fundraising event today for Moran.

Early public polling in the GOP primary has shown a competitive race between Moran and Tiahrt, and the winner of the August 2010 contest is expected to be the next Senator from the Sunflower State.
