HOH’s One-Minute Recess: Stretch It Out

Hang up that pencil skirt and slap on some yoga pants because Past Tense Studio is offering up a special deal just for the stressed-out Hill staffer.

[IMGCAP(1)]Located in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood just a few blocks from the Columbia Heights Metro station, this yoga studio is offering all Congressional staffers and Capitol Hill reporters a single discounted class for $10. The deal is available throughout the month of August. All you have to do is show your ID badge and keep the chatter about town-hall meetings to a minimum.

“Think of it as our own version of the health care bill,— says Past Tense (3253 Mt. Pleasant St. NW) owner Kelly DiNardo. DiNardo says she can relate to the stress of staffers, and particularly journalists, from her experience as a freelance writer.

Staffers and journos can choose from a wide variety of classes that include the “Ahh-some— class, which is designed for those who are recovering from an injury or looking for a less stressful workout, and the “Let It Flow— class featuring the vinyasa style of yoga. If you’re new to the mat, Past Tense also offers classes for first-timers as well as a Friday Happy Hour class, which is set to top 40 hits and R&B music.

Emily Heil and Elizabeth Brotherton are hiking the Appalachian Trail this week. They will return Aug. 17.
