Nation: RedState Founder Calls for NRSC Boycott

Erick Erickson, the founder and editor of the conservative blog RedState.com, is so enraged that the National Republican Senatorial Committee decided to endorse Gov. Charlie Crist (R) in Florida’s GOP primary that he is calling for a financial boycott of the committee.

Crist formally entered the race to replace retiring Sen. Mel Martinez (R) on Tuesday, and Senate GOP leaders immediately threw their support behind him.

Erickson said the NRSC’s decision to back Crist over conservative former state Speaker Marco Rubio was an affront to the party’s conservative base and a poor strategic decision.

“If the NRSC thinks this is smart, we must not waste our time or energy with them,— Erickson wrote on Wednesday. “Join me in pledging no money, no help, no aid, and no support for the NRSC’s efforts in the 2010 election cycle. … We can disagree with the NRSC on many things, but this one is a bridge too far.—

NRSC spokesman Brian Walsh responded by saying that in order for the GOP to be a big-tent party, it can’t have a litmus test for candidates, as some party activists would prefer.

“They’re certainly welcome to that viewpoint,— Walsh said. “But we’re focused on rebuilding the party, winning elections and ultimately regaining the majority so that bills like card check’ never see the light of day.—
