The fiscally conservative House Blue Dog Coalition on Tuesday announced its health care blueprint, a plan that likely will have fellow Democrats grousing for its lack of a government-run component.

The Blue Dogs released their “principles for health care reform— just one day after sending a scathing letter to House Energy and Commerce Chairman Henry Waxman (D-Calif.). In the letter, the moderate Democratic bloc charged that it was being kept on the sidelines while the Energy and Commerce panel negotiates health care legislation.

“The principles address the Blue Dogs’ belief that fundamental reform of the nation’s health care system is needed to control rising health care costs, increase quality and value, and improve access to coverage and care,— the group stated in a release.

Absent in the Blue Dogs’ outline is a requirement that any final health care overhaul include a blend of government and private insurance plans. The group also makes no mention of a government-run plan in talking points distributed this week on Capitol Hill and downtown.

“They’re not going to put things on or off the table at this point of the process,— a Democratic lobbyist said.
