Nation: NRCC Ads, Robocalls to Target 43 Democrats

Updated: 2:40 p.m.

The National Republican Congressional Committee is set to launch a recess ad offensive today, hitting Democrats in 43 districts for helping to “rubber stamp— spending bills for Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

Most of those 43 Democrats will be the target of robocalls flooding into their districts later this week, but nine Democrats will begin hearing NRCC radio ads. (Click here to listen to the ad.)

The radio ads are running in the districts of the following Democratic Members: Reps. Michael Arcuri (N.Y.), Chet Edwards (Texas), Debbie Halvorson (Ill.), Kathy Dahlkemper (Pa.), Alan Grayson (Fla.), Mary Jo Kilroy (Ohio), Charlie Melancon (La.), Carol Shea-Porter (N.H.) and Dina Titus (Nev.).

Rep. Zack Space (D-Ohio) is being singled out for particular attention in a NRCC TV ad that will begin airing today.

“Just how fast is Congressman Zack Space spending your money?— an announcer in the ad asks. “Nancy Pelosi pushed a budget with a trillion dollar deficit. And Space voted to let Nancy Pelosi get her way. Tell Zack Space it’s time to put the brakes on spending.—

NRCC spokesman Paul Lindsay said Friday that the new ad campaign is an effort to hold Democratic Members accountable for their votes in favor of the stimulus package and budget.

“The Democrats who rubber-stamped these bills with Nancy Pelosi need to be held accountable for burdening middle-class families and inflicting further damage on an already fragile economy,— he said.
