Democrats Win Pryce Seat in Ohio

Ohio voters have handed Democrats the last undecided House race in the country, as Franklin County Commissioner Mary Jo Kilroy (D) has defeated state Sen. Steve Stivers (R), according to unofficial election results released Sunday evening. Kilroy defeated Stivers, 45.91 percent to 45.15 percent, which is just outside the half percent margin that would trigger an automatic recount of the race for Ohio’s 15th district. Stivers lost the race by 2,311 votes out of 304,053 ballots cast. Stivers led Kilroy by a few hundred votes until this weekend, when local officials added results from about 23,000 provisional ballots to the final tally. The Franklin County Board of Elections will certify the results Monday. The Columbus-area seat is currently held by retiring GOP Rep. Deborah Pryce. Pryce defeated Kilroy in similarly close race in 2006 by 1,062 votes.
