Pelosi to Burn Up Phone Lines Tonight

Late Tuesday, after election results are in and when analysts can finally sink their teeth into a newly changed Congressional landscape, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) will be turning her attention to the next arduous task — phone calls to the freshman class of 2009.

Pelosi’s job could be time consuming as House Democrats are expected to grow their current majority of 235 Members by at least 20.

Pelosi will start making her new Member calls late election night, and continue the practice over the next few days, said a senior Democratic leadership aide.

The phone calls are just part of an otherwise busy schedule for the Democratic Speaker. Pelosi will participate in a photo opportunity with other House Democratic leaders around 7:30 p.m. at the Hyatt in Washington, the venue for the Democrats’ election night party. She plans to address the party faithful later in the evening after the dust settles at the polls.
