Boehner Promises to Rebuild GOP

House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) congratulated Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) Tuesday night for winning the presidential election and chalked it up as “an important milestone for our democracy.”

But Boehner cautioned that Obama has “sketched a troubling policy road map” for a Congress “purchased by powerful liberal special interests.” “The American people want and deserve accountability from Washington Democrats, and Republicans will stand on principle to ensure they get it,” Boehner said.

Possibly facing a challenge to his Minority Leader post following Tuesday’s Democratic sweep, Boehner pledged to rebuild the Republican Party by “fighting for the principles of freedom, opportunity, security and individual liberty.”

He also thanked GOP presidential candidate Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) for “his decades of patriotism and service to our nation.”
