New Group Focuses on Middle Class

Looking ahead to next year’s Congressional agenda, a group of House Democrats gathered Wednesday to announce a package of bills aimed at middle-class families.

The newly formed Democratic Middle Class Working Group, chaired by Rep. Steve Israel (N.Y.), pitched its agenda of 13 bills targeting college affordability, health insurance portability, transportation costs and small businesses.

Israel said the bills haven’t been scored — and didn’t know how they would be paid for — but they would be comply with pay-as-you-go budget rules.

Other Members in the group include Reps. Melissa Bean (Ill.), Nancy Boyda (Kan.), André Carson (Ind.), Ciro Rodriguez (Texas), Tim Ryan (Ohio) and Carol Shea-Porter (N.H.).
