Allen Remains Positive

If it wasn’t for a few moments on the campaign trail in southwest Virginia two years ago, this could have been a very different convention for George Allen (R).

“That’s in the past,” Allen said Thursday afternoon, regarding his “macaca” remarks directed toward a Democratic campaign aide that led to his re-election loss in 2006, “I’m here to support John McCain.”

Prior to his loss, Allen was considered a potential top-tier 2008 presidential contender.

But tonight, Allen faces another conflict. His beloved Washington Redskins open the NFL season against the New York Giants at the same time convention festivities go on for the fourth night.

So, who will have the better night, McCain or Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell?

“John McCain,” Allen said without hesitation. “He’s not facing the Giants’ defensive line.”
