GOP Fleshes Out Today’s Program

Republican National Convention officials released the full lineup of speakers for tonight’s program, as party organizers attempt to get back to regular order after a subdued kickoff to the event Monday.

In addition to Sen. Joe Lieberman (ID-Conn.) and former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.), who are headlining the evening, other speakers include House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), Sen. Norm Coleman (R-Minn.) and Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.).

President Bush will appear via satellite and first lady Laura Bush is also expected to speak. Laura Bush received a warm welcome from convention delegates when she took the stage Monday afternoon as part of a vastly scaled back opening of the convention in St. Paul, Minn.

The theme for today’s program is “Service,” and the convention will be gaveled to order at 6 p.m.

“We are looking forward to showcasing John McCain’s life-long record of putting his country first,” Republican National Committee Chairman Mike Duncan said in a statement.
