Louisiana: Wealthy Democrat on TV Against Scalise
By John McArdle
Posted August 8, 2008 at 5:17pmWealthy businessman Jim Harlan (D), running against Rep. Steve Scalise (R) in the fall, dropped the first television ad of the 1st district campaign Thursday.
The one-minute bio ad seeks to emphasize Harlan as independent-minded with a pro-gun, anti-abortion, fiscally conservative political philosophy.
Harlan is a former aide with the U.S. Department of Energy who touts himself as an expert on energy production issues. He has already loaned his Congressional campaign $525,000 and raised about $70,000 more since entering the race.
Scalise won a special election this spring to replace now-Gov. Bobby Jindal in the 1st district, which is considered to be the most GOP district in the state.
