Arizona: Democrats Praise Lord, Ready the Ammunition

Attorney Bob Lord (D), gunning for Rep. John Shadegg (R) in the Republican-leaning 3rd district, has been endorsed by Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D) and former Rep. Sam Coppersmith (D).

Grijalva, who represents the southwestern Arizona 7th district, was instrumental in 2006 in helping Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D) pick up the Republican-leaning southeastern Arizona 8th district.

“Bob Lord is passionate about changing the way Washington works,” Grijalva said in a statement. “He is the kind of pragmatic leader that can make a difference for Arizona in Washington, especially on issues like border security and our economy.”

Shadegg, running for an eighth term, announced earlier this month that he would retire from the House and not seek re-election, only to reverse himself 10 days later and declare for the race. Former state Rep. Steve May (R), who announced his intention to run for Shadegg’s seat during the Congressman’s brief retirement, has said he still plans to enter the contest.
