Four Suspicious Fires Extinguished in Senate Buildings

A small fire that started this afternoon in the Dirksen Senate Office Building has been extinguished. It was the fourth blaze that burned in Senate office buildings today. Three other fires burned in women’s restrooms in the Dirksen and the Hart buildings earlier in the day, Capitol Police spokeswoman Sgt. Kimberly Schneider said. Those fires, which burned from early morning to this afternoon, were described as suspicious in nature by the department. But it remains unclear who is behind the blazes. “We’re working on it,” Schneider said. “We’re investigating.” — Elizabeth Brotherton
