Dole Discusses WWII Experiences Tonight

To celebrate today’s release of his new autobiography, “One Soldier’s Story: A Memoir,” former Sen. Bob Dole (R-Kan.) will share the story of his World War II experience this evening with XM Satellite Radio’s Bob Edwards at the National Museum of Natural History.

Before serving on Capitol Hill, Dole served in uniform in the legendary 10th Mountain Division, which saw action in Italy during World War II. He was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster during the war and came back to the United States with a shattered body and a new outlook on life.

Dole’s book recounts his courageous journey overseas as well as his struggle to regain the use of his arms and legs back home.

Tonight’s presentation will begin at 7 p.m. in the Baird Auditorium of the museum.

Copies of Dole’s book, provided by the Smithsonian, will be available for signing after the program.
