Senate GOP Affirms Sept. 17 Iran Review Deadline

Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Wednesday said he is prepared to take up further legislation against Iran when there are sufficient co-sponsors to overcome a potential presidential veto, adding along with Foreign Relations Chairman Bob Corker that the Senate must act on the Iran deal by Sept. 17, countering the argument of some Republicans in the House.

“I’m sure that the president is going to conclude that that is the case, I’m sure that the U.N. Security Council is going to conclude that that’s the case and I’m just not sure where you take that,” Corker said, referring to the Sept. 17 deadline. “… It’s my opinion that we’re far better off focusing on the substance of this.”
