Protester Escorted From Senate Chamber Shortly Before Haspel Vote

 

The sergeant-at-arms was instructed to remove a protester from the Senate chamber on Thursday afternoon, shortly before the vote to confirm Gina Haspel to be CIA director. Haspel’s confirmation process had been a contentious one, surrounding her views on the torture program started under the Bush administration. Haspel was confirmed Thursday by a 54-45. In recent days she’d expressed regret about the program.
