Kelly Mae Ross covers committee markups and floor action as a legislative action intern for CQ Roll Call. Before joining CQ Roll Call, Kelly Mae interned at The Charlotte Observer, where she covered business. She has also interned at U.S. News & World Report, where she covered politics and policy.

An upstate New York native, Kelly Mae graduated from Washington and Lee University in May 2013 with a B.A. in journalism and politics. While there, she served as the editor of inGeneral magazine.

There was one senator conspicuously absent at the beginning of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s markup on Thursday morning: Charles E. Schumer. The committee was slated to mark up a media shield bill, sponsored by the New York Democrat and about 10 minutes into the meeting, the senator was nowhere to be found.
