Benton Ives


Benton Ives has been a reporter and editor for several years, primarily handling coverage of budget, tax and finance policy issues. Most recently, he worked as economics and finance editor, leading coverage of the debate over the debt limit, government spending and taxes.

Before becoming an editor, Benton was the banking and financial services reporter for CQ, where he covered the financial crisis, the economic bailouts and the early germination of the financial regulatory overhaul. Earlier positions include nearly two years as a reporter at Dow Jones, covering Treasury and the Federal Reserve. Benton is a graduate of the University of Virginia and lives with his wife and two sons in Alexandria.

GOP Lawmakers Petition Geithner to Delay Derivatives Rules

House Republicans are pushing Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner to delay major derivatives rules set to go into effect on Oct. 12. Industry has pleaded with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to delay several regulations, including provisions that will define which non-banks qualify as swap dealers and rules that will govern derivatives trades made by foreign subsidiaries of U.S. companies (so-called “cross-border” trades).
