Roll Call Launches “The Chief”

New Column to focus on Congressional Chiefs of Staff

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Roll Call Group, Capitol Hill’s leading news source for coverage of the people, politics and process that shape the legislative landscape, today launched The Chief, a bi-weekly column focused on the role of Chiefs of Staff in Congressional offices.

“The Chief of Staff in each Member of Congress’ personal office, as well as on the committees, plays a unique and powerful role in shaping the legislative and political agenda,” says Roll Call Editor-in-Chief Charlie Mitchell. “As the ranking staffer, the Chief of Staff must keep a finger on the pulse of everything related to their Member of Congress, and this column provides our readers with an inside-look into that position and the people who fill that position.”

The first in the series debuts in the Oct. 2 issues of Roll Call and RollCall.com. Upcoming columns will appear Oct. 16 and will be published every two weeks starting in Jan. 2009.

The Chief will feature:

  • • Profile of a Chief of Staff;
  • • A Q&A column featuring real questions from chiefs of staff answered by the Congressional Management Foundation’s Meredith Persily Lamel; and
  • • On RollCall.com, pending approval from the respective Congressional office, a quick five-question video with the chief of staff to get to know the exemplary people who fill this position.
