Roll Call, CongressNow Honored
June 10, 2009 Last night, the Society of Professional Journalists, D.C. Chapter, handed out its 2008 Dateline Awards, and Roll Call Group came home with multiple honors.
First, in the Weekly Newspaper division:
Emily Piece continues to dominate the Editorial, Column, Commentary category, this time winning second place for her work on Road Map. This is the fourth time she has won an award in this category.
John McArdle captured first place in the Features category for his Hall of Fame article in last year's Annual Roll Call Congressional Baseball Game Program ("Lou Frey: Capitol Hill's Very Own Willie Mays").
Joining John in that category is Tricia Miller, who won third place for her profile of Georges de Paris and Joe Sauro, "Tailors to the President."
Following up on their first place showing in the MDDC Press Association's contest, Paul Singer, Jennifer Yachnin and Casey Hynes won first place in the Investigative Reporting category for their examination of financial disclosure reports and rundown of the 50 richest Members of Congress.
And this year we made a foray into a new category Washington Reporting (Newsletter Division) with CongressNow grabbing third place. This is an overall category, capturing the totality of a daily issue. So this award goes to the entire CN staff.
