Roll Call Announces Editorial Staff Changes

Note from Roll Call Editor-in-Chief Charlie Mitchell

I am pleased to announce a series of staff moves that immediately strengthen our senior editing team and recognize three outstanding journalists for the work they have done at Roll Call ‑ and the successes we envision for them in the future.

Erin Billings is being promoted to Senior News Editor, with responsibility for our House and Senate reporting teams. Erin will be my primary deputy in charge of editorial content for the newspaper and Web site.

Erin already has injected a burst of energy into our coverage of the Congressional leadership and her insight and advice consistently help Roll Call stay a step ahead of the competition.

I'm also happy to announce that Josh Kurtz, after six years as Politics Editor, is moving into a new senior editorial role, while Lauren Whittington will become our new Politics Editor.

Josh, as a Senior Editor, will be in charge of Roll Call's special sections and he will act as a roving editor contributing his skill and expertise throughout the paper. In addition, Josh will be launching a new column in the Politics section, tapping into more than two decades of experience covering the political scene.

And I am thrilled for Lauren Whittington to take up the mantle as Politics Editor. Lauren has excelled at several beats here at Roll Call, including as a leadership reporter and a political reporter. In the last few months as an associate editor, she has demonstrated a strong talent for editing and a keen sense of direction for Team Politics.

I'm looking forward to working with Erin, Josh and Lauren in their new roles and believe this is a great step forward for our editorial team. Please take a moment to congratulate each of them.
