Roll Call and GalleryWatch to Boost Coverage of Legislation and Policy

WASHINGTON, D.C., Jan. 4, 2007 — Roll Call, the award-winning Congressional newspaper, and GalleryWatch, a leading provider of online legislative information for government affairs professionals, will debut enhanced coverage of legislation and policy in early 2007, the organizations announced today.

The new electronic news service will combine the strengths of Roll Call, which has a stellar and longstanding reputation for its news coverage of Congress, with those of GalleryWatch, which offers subscribers unparalleled access to legislative monitoring services and Congressional document databases.

Both Roll Call and GalleryWatch are Economist Group businesses.

“This will enhance what we already do best — cover Congress,” said Laurie Battaglia, Publisher of Roll Call. “This will bring together Roll Call’s expertise in reporting on and analyzing Congress for Washington insiders and GalleryWatch’s tremendous resources in legislative monitoring and information-gathering.”

The effort, which will include the hiring of additional reporters and editors, represents the first editorial partnership between Roll Call and GalleryWatch, which was acquired by Roll Call on Oct. 30.

Among the topics to be covered are legislative developments in budget and appropriations; defense and homeland security; energy and environment; agriculture; commerce; taxes; transportation; financial services; and international trade.

The editor in charge of the project will be Louis Jacobson, who will shift from his post as deputy editor at Roll Call. Prior to joining Roll Call in 2004, Jacobson covered lobbying, politics and Congress for National Journal for nearly 11 years.
