Republican Rep. Charlie Dent will campaign Wednesday in Pennsylvania with Sen. Patrick J. Toomey, lending centrist credibility to a conservative GOP incumbent facing a tough re-election race.
Both Dent and Toomey, who have kept their distance from presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump, are skipping the Republican National Convention in Cleveland this week and spending time with their Pennsylvania constituents.
Wednesday's rally is being hosted by the Lebanon County Republicans. Dent, who represents a central Pennsylvania district, is chairman of the Tuesday Group, a collection of moderate House Republicans.
Toomey is just one of several Senate Republicans seeking re-election who decided to skip the convention. Others include New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte, Illinois Sen. Mark S. Kirk and Arizona Sen. John McCain.
