The National Republican Congressional Committee and other GOP-aligned outside groups launched a new round of television advertising over the weekend in a bevy of House races.
With seven weeks to go until Election Day, the NRCC on Sunday released 10 new TV ads — six in districts the group is working to hold and four in districts the GOP hopes to pick up. Democrats must score a net gain of 25 seats in November to wrestle back control of the House majority.
The six GOP-controlled districts targeted are those of Reps. Sean Duffy (Wis.), Joe Heck (Nev.), Steve King (Iowa), Chip Cravaack (Minn.), Dan Benishek (Mich.) and California's open 26th district. The four districts the NRCC is playing offense in are those of Reps. Mark Critz (Pa.) and Bill Owens (N.Y.), plus Illinois' open 12th district and Nevada's new 4th district.
The NRCC's latest independent expenditure disclosure, which detailed how much was spent on each ad, showed purchases in several more districts. Those included districts where it is playing defense, such as Illinois' 13th and 17th districts, and offense, including against Rep. Ben Chandler (D-Ky.).
At the same time, groups such as the Congressional Leadership Fund and American Action Network are also targeting competitive districts with new ads. The Congressional Leadership Fund announced a $1.1 million buy on Friday — including a "six-figure digital advocacy campaign" — against Rep. Betty Sutton (D), who faces freshman Rep. Jim Renacci (R) in Ohio's newly drawn 16th district.
The American Action Network announced this morning that it is going up in four GOP-controlled districts: California Rep. Jeff Denham's 10th district, Cravaack's district in Minnesota, Illinois' open 13th district and Indiana Rep. Larry Bucshon's 8th district.
