State Rep. Carl Sciortino, one of five Democrats running in Massachusetts’ 5th District special election this fall, received two more endorsements from liberal members on Thursday.

Democratic Reps. Raúl M. Grijalva of Arizona and Keith Ellison of Minnesota — the co-chairmen of the Congressional Progressive Caucus — joined Rep. Alan Grayson of Florida in supporting Sciortino’s campaign.

“He is the consistent progressive in the race, having led the fight for the issues we progressives care about for almost 10 years in the state legislature — a higher minimum wage, closing corporate tax-loopholes, protecting a woman’s right to choose, the list goes on and on,” Grijalva and Ellison said in a joint release. “Carl Sciortino’s ability to take on these tough fights, and win them, will be an incredible asset to the Progressive Caucus in Congress.”

The endorsements come a little more than a month out from the special election primary, sparked by Edward J. Markey’s ascension to the Senate after representing the district for 19 terms.  Other top-tier candidates in the wide-open primary field include State Sens. Karen Spilka and Katherine Clark, and Middlesex Sheriff Peter Koutoujian.

Whoever emerges from the crowded Oct. 15 primary will likely come to Congress. This district voted for President Barack Obama in 2012 with 65 percent of the vote.
