Republican Francis Rooney will defeat Democrat Robert M. Neeld in Florida’s 19th Congressional District, The Associated Press projects. 

Rooney led Neeld 63.7 percent to 36.3 percent with 0 percent of precincts reporting.

With a third of Florida's delegation retiring at the end of this term, open-seat races dot the Sunshine State's redistricted congressional map.

Five of the open eight House seats are in Safe Republican districts, which means the winners of Tuesday's primaries will likely be the next members of Congress.

Florida Republican Rep. Curt Clawson announced Thursday he will not seek re-election, saying he wanted be closer to his ailing father.  

"With the passing of my mom, it’s a good time to show support for my dad and be close to (him)," Clawson told The News-Press of Fort Myers .
