Lawson Has Double-Digit Lead in Florida’s 5th District, Poll Finds
With days to primary, incumbent Democrat in comfortable spot

With just four days left until the Florida primaries, incumbent Rep. Al Lawson controls a double-digit lead over his Democratic challenger, according to a University of North Florida poll. 

The poll of likely voters in Florida’s 5th District, released Thursday, is the latest sign of Lawson’s dominance over former Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown, who has attempted to build momentum with backing from progressive groups and religious leaders.

Rep. Corrine Brown and her chief of staff were indicted for their involvement in "a conspiracy and fraud scheme" that involved an education charity, the Justice Department announced Friday.  

The Florida Democrat and Elias "Ronnie" Simmons were charged with 24 counts, among them mail and wire fraud, theft of government property, and filing false tax returns.
