Lawmakers Call for Policy Changes to Defeat ISIS

A day after a Russian plane was brought down by what officials suspect to be a bomb planted by the Islamic State, House Foreign Affairs Chairman Rep. Ed Royce and Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee speak to CQ Roll Call about their concerns regarding the Islamic State. 

Royce, who has held several testimonies on the threats faced by the group, said the current White House strategy needs to change.

Democrat Grills Kerry on Iran Sanctions

At a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on the Iran nuclear deal Thursday, Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif., grilled Secretary of State John Kerry over economic sanctions and whether additional sanctions could bring Iran to the table on American hostages it's holding and for its support of Bashar al-Assad's regime.

“Is Congress and the United States free under this agreement to adopt new sanctions legislation that will remain in force as long as Iran holds our hostages and supports Assad?” Sherman asked.

The House Foreign Affairs Committee holds a hearing on the Iran nuclear deal announced earlier this month. Secretary of State John Kerry, Energy Secretary Ernest J. Moniz and Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew are expected to testify.
