Republican Governors Association Raises $24 Million

The Republican Governors Association,  a Section 527 political organization,  reported  it raised $24.1 million and spent $15.6 million during the second quarter of 2014.  

Major donors included David Koch , executive VP, Koch Industries (NY) $2.5 million; Sheldon Adelson , CEO, Las Vegas Sands Corp. (NV) $2.5 million; and Ken Griffin , CEO, Citadel Group (IL) $1.5 million.  

Democratic Governors Association Raises $13.8 Million

The Democratic Governors Association , a Section 527 political organization, reported  raising $13.8 million and spending $12.1 million, during the second quarter of 2014.  

Major donors included $1,360,000 from the NEA Advocacy Fund (DC) $900,000 from the American Federation of Teachers AFT (DC); $750,000 from AFSCME (DC);  $450,000 from the United Food Commercial Workers Intl. Union; $300,000 from SEIU IPEA (DC); $325,000 AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals (AZ); $250,000 from Pfizer Inc. (OH); $250,000  from United Healthcare Services Inc.; $250,000 from SEIU Michigan State Council (MI); $150,000 from PhRMA (DC); and $150,000 from the International Union of Painters Allied Trades (DC).  

Candidates Rush to Collect Funds by June 30th Deadline

The 2014 U.S. Senate and House campaigns are rushing to collect contributions prior to the June 30th close of their financial books.  

Federal candidates and their campaign committees must close their financial books on Monday, June 30th, and publicly disclose their receipts, disbursements, cash and debt balances later in July.  

National Party Committees Report May Financial Figures

The two major national party committees and the four Congressional campaign committees had healthy fundraising efforts during May, leaving them with substantial war chests for the upcoming elections.  

The Democratic National Committee (DNC)  reported  receipts of $8,785,383 and disbursements of $8,777,135, leaving $7,939,858 cash on hand on May 31st. The committee has debts of $4,909,240. During May the committee made a loan repayment of $1,875,000.

PACs Report Their Biggest Month for Giving

Several political action committees of major companies, unions, and issue groups reported their highest levels of monthly giving this cycle for contributions to candidates and political committees.  

With primaries underway, some general election candidates already identified, and Congress still in session, several PACs reported May was their largest month for giving this cycle. PACs filing monthly disclosure reports must file on or before June 20th.  

DNC Chips Away at Debt, NRCC Has Receipts Chipped Away

The two major national political party committees reported similar fundraising receipts during April, but the House Republican committee reported lower fundraising results than the Democrats.  

The Democratic National Committee  (DNC) reported  receipts of $9.3 million and disbursements of $11.2 million during April, leaving $7.9 million cash on hand as of April 30th, with $8.7 in outstanding debts. Small contributions from persons giving $200 or less accounted for $4.5 million of the receipts. California itemized donors provided $1.1 million. The committee repaid $3,750,000 on a loan from Amalgamated Bank of New York. They repaid $1,875,000 on April 1st and April 30th.
