Cheat Sheet: House and Senate Primaries in June

After a relatively unsurprising  series of primaries this month , June brings another collection of intraparty contests. More than half  of the states will have selected their nominees by the end of the month. Republicans will pick nominees in key Senate races in Mississippi , Iowa and South Dakota. Down the ballot, House primaries in several open seats will likely determine the future members of Congress from both parties.

Cory Booker Elected Senator in New Jersey

Newark Mayor Cory Booker, the Twitter star with a Rolodex of Hollywood contacts, was elected to the Senate on Wednesday following a New Jersey special election campaign that lacked suspense.

After leading in the polls by double digits for the duration, the Democrat handily defeated conservative activist Steve Lonegan. The Associated Press called the race for Booker with 55 percent of precincts reporting, and the mayor ahead 55 percent to 44 percent.

Special Election Whirlwind Week Starts Today

A week of rapid-fire congressional special elections kicks off Tuesday with a primary in Massachusetts' 5th District, followed by two more contests in the following days to fill vacant seats on Capitol Hill.

Both the Massachusetts contest and a special election primary in Louisiana's 5th District on Saturday are taking place in safe Democratic and Republican seats respectively, leaving little chance for either party to flip a new seat into their column. Yet with crowded primary fields in both races, it's not clear which candidates will emerge with the nominations.

Poll: Booker Up 14 Going Into New Jersey Special Election

Newark Mayor Cory Booker continues to lead his Republican opponent by double digits with just one day to go in the New Jersey Senate special election.

A Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday morning found Booker ahead of Republican Steve Lonegan, 54 percent to 40 percent. The margin is nearly identical to a week ago, when Booker led by 12 points.

Booker Cancels Campaign Event After Father's Death

Newark Mayor Cory Booker has canceled his last Senate campaign event of the day in the wake of his father's death.

The Booker campaign announced that Cary Booker, 76, died today in Las Vegas. He suffered from Parkinson's disease, and the campaign said he had recently suffered a stroke.

Sarah Palin to Stump in New Jersey on Saturday

Sarah Palin will hit the campaign stump on Saturday ahead of next week's New Jersey Senate special election.

Palin, a Fox News contributor and former Alaska governor, will join underdog Republican nominee Steve Lonegan for a rally at the New Egypt Speedway. The Lonegan campaign announced the news Wednesday night, when Lonegan and Newark Mayor Cory Booker engaged in their final debate ahead of the Oct. 16 special.

Newark Mayor Cory Booker is going on the air with a new television ad that attacks his GOP rival on the government shutdown — just two weeks out from the special election for Senate in New Jersey.

The first few seconds of the spot feature typical Democratic attacks against Republican rivals: tying opponent Steve Lonegan to Social Security and Medicare privatization, saying he supports an abortion ban and labeling him as "too extreme."

Poll: Booker Up 12 in New Jersey Senate Special | #NJSEN

In its first survey of likely voters, a Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday found Newark Mayor Cory Booker's lead in next month's New Jersey Senate special election down to 12 points.

With a month to go in New Jersey's Senate special election, Newark Mayor Cory Booker has pulled out to a 35-point lead, according to a Rutgers-Eagleton Poll released Wednesday.

Booker took 64 percent, with 29 percent supporting Republican Steve Lonegan and 6 percent undecided. The special to replace the late Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg, D-N.J., will be held Oct. 16.
