NRCC Announces Another Crop of 'Young Guns'

The National Republican Congressional Committee announced Monday nine more candidates had achieved "Young Gun" status, the top tier of their candidate recruitment and training program.  

The new members increases the number of "Young Gun" candidates this cycle to 43 . These candidates have met unannounced fundraising and organizational goals. In return, the NRCC gives them fundraising and strategic help.

Updated, Wednesday 7:00 a.m. | The accidental congressman 's tenure in Washington came to an end Tuesday evening, when Michigan Rep. Kerry Bentivolio lost the Republican primary to attorney David Trott in this district northwest of Detroit.  

Trott had 66 percent of the 11th District vote when The Associated Press called the race for him. Bentivolio trailed with 34 percent of the vote at that time.

Tuesday night features some of the most intense — and final — tea party-vs.-business contests of the GOP primary season.  

Polls close in Michigan and Kansas at 9 p.m. EST. Washington State has a mail-in ballot system, with the first set of results expected to be released by 11:30 p.m. EST.  

Dave Camp Retirement Pushes House Past Average Number of Retirements

Rep. Dave Camp announced Monday he will not seek a 13th term, becoming the second Michigan Republican in the past week to announce his retirement.  

“Today, I am announcing that I will not seek re-election to the United States House of Representatives," Camp said in a statement. "This decision was reached after much consideration and discussion with my family."
