A Valentine’s Day animal adoption event on Friday will bring adorable pets in need of a home to Capitol Hill. Hosted by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Congressional Animal Protection Caucus, “Paws for Love” features 11 animal rescue groups from the surrounding area.

The fourth annual “Paws for Love” will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday in Cannon 345. Longtime advocates for animal welfare issues, such as former Sen. Bob Dole, R-Kan., and his wife, former Sen. Elizabeth Dole, R-N.C., will be there. Also advocating for dogs and cats to be adopted for Valentine’s Day are co-chairmen on the Congressional Animal Protection Caucus, Reps. Earl Blumenauer, D-Ore., and Michael G. Fitzpatrick, R-Pa.

Alan Simpson Goes From Economic Affairs to Affairs of the Heart

Former Sen. Alan K. Simpson couldn't solve the nation's financial woes as co-chairman of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform — but where he fell short in economic affairs he perhaps is making up for in affairs of the heart.

The 84-year-old Wyoming Republican, who held office from 1979 to 1997, is being partly credited for the recent marriage of a New York Public Radio podcaster, Anna Sale, and a wildlife research scientist, Arthur Middleton.

Young at Heart: Alaska Congressman Remarries at Capitol

Rep. Don Young -- Alaska Republican, former tugboat captain, collector of walrus penis bones and hopeless romantic -- celebrated his 82nd birthday Tuesday, as well as love.

The congressman and sweetheart Anne Garland Walton tied the knot at a private ceremony in the Capitol chapel. According to Young's office, House Chaplain Patrick J. Conroy officiated. "As I celebrate my 82nd birthday, Anne has given me the best gift anyone could as for -- her hand in marriage," Young said in a statement.

Alexis Flake May Be Congressional Baseball’s Biggest Fan

Once upon a time, Alexis Flake, daughter of Arizona Republican Sen. Jeff Flake, met a somewhat mysterious stranger under the dazzling lights of Nationals Park.

Four years, and three Democrat victories in a row  later, Alexis’s home team stands poised to grow by one pending the arrival of a little one later this summer. The fairy tale romance took wing in 2012.

Don Young Inches Closer to Remarrying

Rep. Don Young can see himself walking down the aisle again.

As first reported by the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner , the Alaska Republican — who lost his wife of more than 40 years, Lu Young, in 2009 — stepped out with his longtime companion Anne Walton over the weekend and officially used the “f” word.

Alan Simpson Dishes About Sex, Love and Marriage

Former Sen. Alan K. Simpson is truly milking this whole “I’m-retired-and-over-80-so-I-can-say-whatever-I-want-now” thing but good, letting it all hang out in an interview about affairs of the heart with WNYC reporter Anna Sale.

During her totally frank talk with the randy octogenarian, Sale discovers that the Wyoming Republican favors coarse language (“He peppers his sentence with cuss words,” she observes), reading “Othello” helped him recognize his own jealousy issues and that he still very much enjoys playing grab-ass with his wife of 60 years, Ann Simpson.

Stop Right There, Cupid! Valentines Barred From Campus Delivery

Cupid had better steer clear of the Capitol this Valentine’s Day.

House Sergeant-at-Arms Paul D. Irving has requested that staffers advise their sweeties to refrain from sending any crimson roses or romantic gift packages to the offices under his purview.
