House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) has endorsed California Rep. Howard Berman in his heated, redistricting-forced race with fellow Democratic Rep. Brad Sherman.

"Howard Berman is a highly-respected leader sought after by his colleagues from both parties for his expertise in both domestic and foreign policy, and world affairs," Hoyer said in a statement posted to Berman's campaign Facebook page. "Howard Berman is respected by both Republicans and Democrats because of his approach as a legislator and decency as an individual. It would be a great loss to the country if Howard Berman did not return to serve in the Congress of the United States."

California: Brad Sherman Up Big in Internal Poll

(Bill Clark/CQ Roll Call)

California Rep. Brad Sherman led by 25 points in an internal poll released today and taken just after his infamous debate with fellow Democratic Rep. Howard Berman.

The poll illustrated that the heated event apparently has had little effect on this costly Member-vs.-Member race, at least in the immediate aftermath. The poll found Sherman ahead 51 percent to 26 percent, with 24 percent undecided. That's not far from where the Sherman campaign's internal polling had the race in July.

California: Things Get Touchy at Berman-Sherman Debate

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. — Rarely is politics described as a contact sport in the literal sense, but the exception happened today toward the end of a feisty debate between Democratic Reps. Brad Sherman and Howard Berman at a community college in the San Fernando Valley.

Things escalated toward the end of the debate, during an argument over Berman's leadership on the DREAM Act. The debate was held in front of a largely Hispanic crowd of more than 200 enthusiastic Pierce College students and members of the community,

California: Howard Berman, Brad Sherman Joust on Valley Values

RESEDA, Calif. — There was far more space between the green armchairs that Democratic Reps. Brad Sherman and Howard Berman sat in during Wednesday's debate than there was on the range of issues the two longtime Congressmen discussed.

But in a duel between two incumbents from the same party, it’s not so much the issues that voters will use to set them apart on Election Day but temperament and which Democrat will better represent their values in Washington, D.C.

California: Howard Berman Endorsed by 10 GOP Members

ENCINO, Calif. — In yet another unprecedented moment in California House races this cycle, 10 Republican members of the state’s Congressional delegation have endorsed Democratic Rep. Howard Berman.

The Foreign Affairs ranking member is running in a highly competitive race against fellow Democratic Rep. Brad Sherman in a San Fernando Valley district that the two were merged into during redistricting. The endorsements are part of Berman’s outreach across the political spectrum in a district where Republicans could make up about a quarter of the vote in November.

Rep. Howard Berman is accusing his Democratic colleague and competitor Rep. Brad Sherman of using his political campaigns as a vehicle for personal profit.

The Berman campaign launched a website, Sherman-Scam.com, to highlight the legal practice of charging interest on personal loans to his campaign, which it says helped Sherman make a profit of $461,000. The campaign also plans to deliver this message to San Fernando Valley voters in the redrawn 30th district with television, radio, print and online advertisements.

California: John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Joe Lieberman Endorse Howard Berman

Rep. Howard Berman, running against a fellow Democrat in California's redrawn 30th district, today announced endorsements from Republican Sens. John McCain (Ariz.) and Lindsey Graham (S.C.), plus Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.).

Drawn together with Rep. Brad Sherman, Berman is hoping to pick up as many non-Democratic votes as possible in the heavily Democratic district in the San Fernando Valley. The endorsements from the three Senators focused on Berman's foreign policy chops as ranking member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and his ability to work across the aisle.
