It may still be early in the week, but House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s office put Members on notice Tuesday to anticipate working over the weekend.
The Virginia Republican’s office advised Members that it is possible that the chamber will be in session Saturday and Sunday. “As soon as a more definitive schedule is known, it will be relayed immediately to Members and offices,” it said in a statement.
Cantor’s office also advised that the House is expected to be in session on every business day for the next two weeks, which is a change from the previous schedule.
The House canceled plans to be on recess this week in order to continue working on issues related to deficit reduction. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) announced Monday that his chamber will stay in session every day, including weekends, until the nation’s debt limit is raised.
