Lowey and Granger talk consensus building at the border

House Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Nita Lowey, D-N.Y., left, and ranking member Rep. Kay Granger, R-Texas, are interviewed by CQ Roll Call in the Capitol on Tuesday, April 30 (Tom Williams/CQ Roll Call)

Reps. Nita Lowey, D-New York, and Kay Granger, R-Texas, may be on opposite sides of the aisle, but as the leaders of the House Appropriations Committee, they appear to be finding consensus on a hot-button issue for many public servants — immigration legislation. Both lawmakers sat down with CQ Roll Call to talk about their concern for the children affected by the government's current immigration policies and their hope that both sides can come together on the issue before any other government shutdowns on the matter occur.
