The Senate considers two proposals to replace $85 billion in automatic budget cuts scheduled to start Friday. The chamber will hold two procedural votes: first to take up a Republican plan that would give the president until March 15 to send Congress a list of reductions to replace the sequester and then on proceeding to a Democratic plan that would replace the sequester with a package of targeted cuts and new tax revenue.
