Stabbing Delays Metro Trains at Federal Center SW

A stabbing incident related to a snatch-and-run theft delayed trains Wednesday afternoon at Federal Center SW station, Metro officials said. Metro Transit Police responded around 3:30 p.m. to a report of a cell phone snatch at L'Enfant Plaza, according to Metro spokeswoman Morgan Dye. The suspect briefly boarded a Silver line car, then hopped on an Orange line train bound for New Carrollton. A passenger who observed the robbery attempted to intervene. He sustained a non-life threatening stab wound to the hand, Dye told CQ Roll Call. Metro Transit Police detained the suspect, a 19-year-old male, at the Federal Center SW station, located one stop from the Capitol South station. Blue, Orange and Silver line trains were held for approximately 20 minutes, delaying subsequent trains, as officers attempted to gather evidence. By 4:45 p.m. trains were operating on a normal schedule. The 114th: CQ Roll Call's Guide to the New Congress Get breaking news alerts and more from Roll Call in your inbox or on your iPhone.
