The Kremlin said Wednesday reports that the Russian government had assembled a file of compromising information about President-elect Donald Trump was “total nonsense.”
“It is an attempt to damage our bilateral relations. It is pulp fiction,” Reuters reported Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on a conference call.
Peskov called the reports a “political witch hunt.”
Trump used the same words when he tweeted his reponse, but going all-caps.
FAKE NEWS - A TOTAL POLITICAL WITCH HUNT!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 11, 2017
Trump sent a stream of tweets Wednesday morning touting Russia’s response, and attacking the intelligence community for “leaking” the documents to news organizations.
He also proclaimed he had nothing to do with Russia — NO DEALS, NO LOANS, NO NOTHING!
Russia just said the unverified report paid for by political opponents is "A COMPLETE AND TOTAL FABRICATION, UTTER NONSENSE." Very unfair!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 11, 2017
Russia has never tried to use leverage over me. I HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH RUSSIA - NO DEALS, NO LOANS, NO NOTHING!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 11, 2017
Intelligence agencies should never have allowed this fake news to "leak" into the public. One last shot at me.Are we living in Nazi Germany?— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 11, 2017
