Several high-profile House Democrats will host a top-dollar fundraiser Thursday for longtime Rep. Collin C. Peterson, D-Minn., according to an invitation obtained exclusively by CQ Roll Call.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Steve Israel, along with 17 other House Democrats, will host a "re-election campaign breakfast" for Peterson.
The fundraiser is the most recent sign that the 12-term Democrat is gearing up for 2014. Earlier this year, low fundraising numbers spurred rumors that Peterson was eyeing retirement.
Peterson is a top GOP target in 2014, as he's one of nine House Democrats who represent districts that GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney carried in 2012. Last year, Peterson defeated his Republican opponent by 26 points, meanwhile while Romney carried the district by a 10-point margin.
Peterson has yet to pick up a GOP opponent for 2014, but businessman Scott Van Binsbergen told CQ Roll Call he is considering a bid.
Minnesota's 7th District is rated a Democrat Favored contest by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.
