Schedule of Inaugural Events

Official events planned for D.C. area for Thursday, Friday and Saturday

Before and after the inaugural ceremony on Friday, there are a number of official events throughout Washington, D.C.

Thursday, Jan. 19

3:30-4 p.m. Wreath-Laying Ceremony — Arlington National Cemetery 

It’s an inaugural tradition for the president-elect to lay a wreath to honor fallen soldiers. This is a private event. 

4 p.m. “Make American Great Again!” Welcome Celebration — Lincoln Memorial 

Trump will speak at an inaugural concert at the Lincoln Memorial, with performers including the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, the Rockettes and Toby Keith. The concert is open to the public and will be televised. 

7:30 p.m. Candlelight Dinner — Union Station

Trump, Pence and their families will thank donors at a dinner in the main station. The Massachusetts Avenue Northwest exit will be closed beginning around 7 p.m., according to WMATA.

Friday, Jan. 20

11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Inaugural Swearing-In Ceremony — U.S. Capitol

Supreme Court Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. will administer the oath of office to Trump using the president-elect’s own Bible and the Bible that President Abraham Lincoln used at his first inauguration. 

3-5 p.m. Inaugural Parade — Pennsylvania Avenue 

More than 8,000 participants will follow the president and vice president from the Capitol to the White House. Tickets are required for select areas.

7-11 p.m. Inaugural Balls — Various

President-elect Trump and his wife Melania and Vice President-elect Mike Pence and his wife Karen will attend three official inaugural balls: Freedom Ball, Liberty Ball and The Salute to our Armed Services Ball. 

Saturday, Jan. 21

10-11 a.m. National Prayer Service — Washington National Cathedral

Private event; tickets not available to the public.
