Ammons has not officially announced, but said on her Facebook page that she would make an announcement at a Springfield Women’s March rally on Tuesday, the Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette reported.
She has previously hinted at a run and has criticized Davis. Ammons was elected in 2014 with more than 60 percent of the vote and ran unopposed last year.
“I am open to considering any position, whether in Springfield or D.C., that allows me to provide public service that reflects the desires and views of constituents and provides advocacy to our working families in Illinois,” she said in February.
Davis won re-election in Illinois’ 13th Congressional District in 2016 with 19.4 percent of the vote.
Dr. David Gill already announced that he is running for the seat and has established a campaign committee, the newspaper reported, and a number of other Democrats are considering getting into the race.
