The chairman of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party said investigators have concluded their investigation into abuse allegations against Rep. Keith Ellison by his former girlfriend, and it will issue its final report soon.

“I’m starting to get a little frustrated because it’s been a long time now, almost two months,” Ken Martin told The Associated Press. “I hope soon. I hope any day here.”

Ellison, the deputy chairman of the Democratic National Committee and the first Muslim to serve in Congress, is vacating his Minneapolis-based 5th District seat to run for Minnesota attorney general. He handily won the DFL primary on Aug. 14.

Karen Monahan, 44, Ellison’s former girlfriend, has claimed he physically and emotionally abused her during their relationship in 2016.

Her son Austin Monahan posted the allegation to Facebook on Aug. 11, claiming Ellison had tried to drag his mother off his bed by her legs and feet, yelling at her to “get the f--- out of his house.” He claimed there was video of the incident.

Karen Monahan has said she also has the video. But she has not produced any such recording, saying that the contents of the video are traumatizing. She also told CNN she had misplaced the video.

Ellison has previously denied the allegations that he physically or emotionally abused Monahan, calling them personal, painful and untrue, according to the (Minneapolis) Star Tribune.

“Karen and I were in a long-term relationship which ended in 2016, and I still care deeply for her well-being,” Ellison said in a statement last month. “This video does not exist because I never behaved in this way, and any characterization otherwise is false.”

The Minnesota DFL Party’s attorney was initially tasked with investigating Monahan’s claim. But Martin hired an outside investigator so that the inquiry “wouldn’t be colored by people with associations with the party,” he said.

The Star Tribune has joined a legal effort filed by a right-leaning news and opinion site to unseal Ellison’s divorce records with his ex-wife, Kim Ellison. The two divorced in 2012.

Kim Ellison has supported her ex-husband as he fends off the allegations from Monahan.

She said the congressman “never abused me in any way before, during, or after our marriage,” the Star Tribune reported.
