Matt Canter, a former top official at the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, is joining Global Strategy Group as senior vice president in the political consulting firm's Washington, D.C., office.
After two cycles at the DSCC, first as communications director and then deputy executive director, Canter is replacing Bill Burton, who left GSG last month to open a California office for SKDKnickerbocker.
At GSG, Canter "will be responsible for implementing communications strategies for clients, developing effective messaging based on opinion research, and political campaign consulting," according to a release provided early to CQ Roll Call.
"Matt has more than a decade of campaign management and strategic communications experience, as well as a deep understanding of the political and legislative landscape in Washington,” Jim Papa, managing director of the firm's D.C. office, said in a statement. "He is a great talent, and will be a tremendous asset to our clients."
Before joining the DSCC in 2011, the Wisconsin native, who is married with a 2-year-old son, held communications director and senior adviser roles for Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., and Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., and Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle.
